  1. TF2 Tactics: Medic Heal Rate (2nd Edition)

by on 02-11-2010 at 12:02 AM

    Video by tf2tactics (February 10, 2010)

    source: http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=1656

"The rate of healing actually ramps up based on the amount of time since the heal target was last injured. If it's been greater than 10 seconds since the target was hurt, the heal rate is increased. The amount of increase ramps linearly up to 3 times the base heal rate at 15 seconds since the target was hurt. So if you're healing a target who's been hurt less than 10 seconds ago, you'll only be getting the base heal rate of 24 health a second. If the target was hurt 12.5 seconds ago, you'll be healing at 48 health a second. If the target hasn't been hurt for over 15 seconds, you'll be getting the maximum heal rate of 72 health a second."

    -Valve

The reason behind this is valve wanted to encourage the duck and cover behaviour among players. Little tweaks like these is the reason why TF2 is the best team strategy game online.

  3. Competitive Tips and Tricks - Heal Order

by on 01-24-2010 at 12:41 PM

    Video by TF2Vlogger (December 26, 2009)

Medics really need to learn to keep switching and buff everyone not just one person. I'm not sure about the heal order but front line people should be healed and buffed first.

  4. TF2 Tactics: How to Heal as a Medic

by on 01-21-2010 at 01:50 PM

Video by christianmalazarte (December 30, 2009)

I hope this video saves a lot of people the headache of screaming their lungs out at medics who are new to the game. The key points include:
    • how to monitor everyone's health even while healing someone else
    • paying attention to health indicators
    • how to buff players
    • why you have to avoid healing in small amounts
    • prioritizing who to heal on specific situations

Let's all admit that most of us know how to do all this... and yet when we play out there not all of us actually do it very well. Just keep in mind, if you're a medic, your job is to heal and heal and heal. Pay attention to other people's health bar, not just the person you're healing (probably the biggest gripe against medics).

    Music used in this video:
    - Dragonforce - Fury of the Storm
    - Rihanna - Take a Bow

  5. Medic: Effective Use of Kritzkrieg

by on 01-20-2010 at 10:44 AM

    Video by PhoenixPwner16 (March 31, 2009)

I believe the best kritzkriegs are the ones where atleast you or your partner has a mic. Using the mic is just so much easier than just guessing when someone is ready. So if you don't have a headset yet better check Newegg.com that's where I buy all my stuff from.

It takes a lot of nerve and timing to pull an uber chain off correctly. Most of the time whenever I see this tactic being pulled off, it's by 2 experienced players. And most of the time it's frowned upon by your teammates. Especially on offense, when you need ubers to kill sentries.

  8. Gravel Pit - Jump to Blu Spawn at A

by on 01-18-2010 at 11:59 AM

Video by CarbonHyperbole (January 04, 2010)

This is possible with any class, although it's a bit trickier with heavy IMO. Crouch jump at the wall from a short distance, such that you land on a tiny bit of displacement (you can't really see it, but aim for the bit of the wall that dents inward, if you will). Adjust you position to taste, stand up, and run along the wall. Jump as late as possible without falling off, and air strafe to victory!

for airstrafe noobs: after jumping, hold W and D (forward and right) and move your mouse smoothly to the right. Your character will move in a circular arc in the air, allowing you to bend your jump around the corner. Crouching during this whole affair would be favorite.

  10. Sniper Tactics: Understanding Fire and Kritz Arrows

by on 01-10-2010 at 01:43 PM

Video by christianmalazarte (October 11, 2009)

This test was requested by: Planetary0

    My conclusions are:
    • a full headshot deals the same amount of damage with kritz, fire and regular arrows--which is around 350 damage.
    • same damage done against sentries.
    • with a body shot, a fire arrow deals slightly more damage because of the burn
    • with a body shot, a kritz arrow can kill a full health heavy guy.
    • fire arrows do not deal more damage than regular ones. (so it's only there to look pretty?)

  11. Understanding Medic Regen Rate

by on 01-10-2010 at 01:19 PM

Video by christianmalazarte (September 15, 2009)

    Medic regen changes:
    • Base regen amount increased from 1/sec to 3/sec
    • Regen amount increase since time of last damage decreased from 3x to 2x
    • End result of above: Old healing scaled from 1/sec to 3/sec based on time since being damaged (maxed out at 10 seconds). New healing scales from 3/sec to 6/sec

    Blutsauger changes:
    • Replaced "No critical hits" negative attribute with "-2 health drained per second on wearer"
    • Health drain stacks on top of the above Medic regen changes, lowering the base regen by 2h/sec

So essentially if you have the blutsauger equipped in your hand you will only get 1HP/sec. I did the video test with the blutsauger equipped in my weapon slot, but I was using the kritz medigun the whole time.

  12. All Medic Defense in Badwater

by on 01-10-2010 at 12:59 PM

Video by christianmalazarte (August 22, 2009)

As the last video in the all class series (for real this time), this will show the lessons we learned when we did all medics on defense. We did eventually fail and had to switch to all demoman to push them back.

When we started we had no strategy or consensus on how we were going to engage the enemy. We had a lot of healers, but the problem was we didn't have a plan on how to kill the enemy and prevent them from pushing the cart. It was poorly organized and poorly planned, we had ubers all over the place that served no objective.

So next time, we'll have to come up with a better strategy. This video is dedicated to the few medics who perished that day. LOL
