  1. How to Build behind the Enemy in Badwater

by on 01-10-2010 at 11:53 AM

Video by christianmalazarte (August 02, 2009)

In Badwater you can build a teleport on the last point before your team even captures the first point! From my experience I've been successful 1 out of 5 tries. So it's not easy, but it's not impossible.

My strategy is to run to the very back on the first wave... (easier said than done right?) Well instead of giving you a step by step tutorial, I'll just give some pointers:
    • You have to go through their front lines within a few seconds of the gate opening. The reason is, you have to get past their spawn door before the first round of enemy respawns, or else you'll bump into one of them on your way to the back!
    • If it's a level 1 sentry gun you can usually hop your way out of range. So get out of your spawn as fast as you can! Jump as the sentry is hitting you and that will cause you to "fly" out of range.
    • Build a sentry in spawn so that it will be easier to get out when the gate opens.
    • Ask friends to help clear the way.
    • Ignore everything else, don't shoot at people unless they're trying to kill you. Just keep going!
    • Use walls and rocks to maneuver around sentries.

  2. Spy Tactics: a Good Spot in Badwater

by on 01-10-2010 at 11:50 AM

Video by christianmalazarte (August 01, 2009)

I think most of the pro spies know this one, but I also included a video to show how far your weapon actually sticks out.

I usually kill a lot of them here especially on the stairs. I think the reason for that is not only are you camping for backs to be exposed to you, but that place is a major hot spot. So the enemies running through there are usually busy paying attention to something else.

Beginner's Tip: it is easy/easier to stab someone who is busy shooting someone else!

  3. Death from Above!

by on 01-10-2010 at 11:47 AM

Video by christianmalazarte (July 31, 2009)

Okay, so I was playing earlier and I captured this video of a sentry kill from a rocket jump. The video shows I only had 130 hp left, but I felt suicidal so I went in after that sentry anyway! Some people dont realize it but a sentry takes a little while longer before they detect and move up to shoot at you.

But the key part is, you have to aim in between or at the engineer and the sentry. If you hit them both your second rocket should kill the engineer, and then you can finish the sentry off with your 3rd and 4th rocket. It wouldn't have been a suicide if I was at full health or a medic buffed me before I jumped!

    Here's another example:

  4. How to kill a Sentry with a Soldier

by on 01-10-2010 at 11:43 AM

Video by christianmalazarte (July 30, 2009)

It's pretty easy if you can find a way to kill the engineer. And it's very futile to hit the sentry while the engineer is repairing it. But it never fails, there's always that one guy who keeps trying. Well this tip will make your life easier!

First to kill the engineer, you can hit the back wall if the engineer is close to a wall, or you can hit the floor where the engineer is standing on. It might take up to 4 or even 6 rockets to kill the engineer with just the AOE (area of effect) damage. Remember not to aim directly at the sentry, but instead let your rocket get past the sentry and hit the engineer. I'll post more videos later on on how fast engineers die based on if they have a level 3 dispencer or a medic behind them. I'll probably post some examples of spy saps + soldier rockets. Can 1 sap and 4 rockets be enough to kill a sentry? We'll have to test it!

Here's an actual gameplay video from last night. Server is (-TN-) badwater/goldrush topnotchclan.com. I aimed back at the wall and killed the engineer. It's funny how I ran out of ammo tho.

  5. How fast 2 Soldiers can take down a Sentry!

by on 01-10-2010 at 11:39 AM

Video by christianmalazarte (July 30, 2009)

This is one of my first videos that I'll be making. It shows how fast 2 soldiers can kill a sentry with rockets. But surprisingly... you seldomly see this in a real game. Why? I don't know why! But really players should have mics and communicate this strategy all the time.

Here's a nice soldier teamwork video:

  6. How to practice deflecting rockets and improve your dodging!

by on 01-10-2010 at 10:55 AM

Video by christianmalazarte (July 28, 2009)

I think there's some people who get rusty at FPS games after some time, and some can just jump back into the game and be as good as they were a year ago. But in any case there's a server I go to to improve my alertness whenever it needs work. The name of this server is " voogru.com 24/7 TF2 DodgeBall". You deflect rockets and nukes whilst trying to kill the other team off, and you never run out of air blasts! As you can see on the video, you're not against bots, they're all real players. It is actually really fun and there's lots of creative maps.

As a spy you need to be super agile at avoiding enemies. Half of the challenge is maneuvering around your enemies so that you don't bump into them. Sometimes you have really good days where there can be 10 enemies in front of you and still manage to dodge them all, and sometimes you just manage to bump into everything! Well, if you're getting rusty try practicing dodging some rockets!

  7. TF2 Tactics: Cart Glitch in Goldrush

by on 01-10-2010 at 04:58 AM

Video by christianmalazarte (August 24, 2009)

This is a nice glitch where you appear to be standing close to the cart, but you're really on the other side of the wall. I've seen this happen once while defending, we were losing really bad and everybody was laughing because the cart was stuck. It wasn't until later that we discovered one of our heavys was camping the other side of the wall! As to whether or not he knew what he was doing or it was an accident, we will never know...

  8. Example Video: How to Build behind the Enemy in Goldrush!

by on 01-10-2010 at 04:30 AM

Video by christianmalazarte (August 09, 2009)

Here's an additional example video of us getting owned by this strategy. As you can see on the video by the time we realized it, it was too late! I managed to destroy one of the sentries but failed to see the other one

So I posted this video as a reference to the original video that was made by someone else.

  9. TF2 Tactics: Spy Actual Gameplay Tips #1

by on 01-08-2010 at 01:52 PM

Video by christianmalazarte (January 06, 2010)

Whenever I have an unusually good round, I think about what I did differently. What worked and what didn't work. And this is what you're about to see.

From what I've noticed in this gameplay:

    - I uncloaked more on safe areas and not out in plain sight. So many of us and including me tend to get too over confident or careless about this. And so now everytime I suck at spying I ask myself this question "Am I being careful not to get caught uncloaking?"

    - I kept chipping away the front line. Altho I didn't notice this myself when I was playing, but it actually started making sense the more I think about it. If I destroyed the sentries in the back first, that wouldn't do any good because my teamates would still be stuck with the sentry up front.

    - I cloaked early all the time, and so the enemy had no idea when I was about to strike. This is a real problem when you are against a team with microphones. One yell of a spy incoming, especially when you are a very big threat to them, and they will all act paranoid and look for you.

    - I kept hitting targets in different parts of the map. A common mistake we make is to hit the same target or area again and again in a row. Unpredictability is your best friend next to stealth. One time playing a soldier I was running straight ...
